Construction Notice | North Pond Water Treatment Plant | August 14, 2026

After many years of planning, funding applications, and design work, construction of the Town’s long-awaited new Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to begin the week of August 17. Residents may see construction equipment on site as crews begin preparing the property for construction.

Residents are asked to avoid the construction area and to exercise caution if travel through the area is required. Please follow all posted signage and obey the directions of flag persons to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.

The Town would like to thank residents for their patience over the past number of years while experiencing fluctuations in water pressure and instances of discoloured water. The new state-of-the-art Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Treatment System will provide improved water treatment and water quality. Other improvements to the system are also expected to help alleviate pressure fluctuations.

The DAF treatment process is commonly used throughout the province and is considered one of the most cost-effective treatment options from a lifecycle perspective.

The project will also include an extension of the water intake pipe farther and deeper into the pond, providing a more reliable water supply.

Funding for the project is being cost-shared among all three levels of government — Federal, Provincial, and Municipal — with a total project cost of $9,865,016.70.

The project is expected to be fully commissioned in early 2028.
