Public Notice | Water Conservation Ban Update
The Town of Torbay would like to thank all residents on the Town Water System for your continued efforts in conserving water. Your actions are making a difference and we are seeing encouraging results in our flow meter readings. However, conservation alone is not enough. Due to the ongoing lack of precipitation, water levels in our pond continues to decline.
Unfortunately, we have also received reports that some residents are not following the current water ban. Please be reminded that the Town has the authority to issue fines or shut off water service for non-compliance. We urge everyone to do their part water conservation is critical for all of us.
Our department of Infrastructure and Public Works is finalizing a plan to begin pumping water from Island Pond Brook into North Pond. Based on our calculations, and depending on brook flow conditions, we believe we can pump enough water into North Pond each day to offset the current daily usage. With continued conservation efforts and some forecasted wet weather, this should help stabilize and possibly improve pond levels.
The Town of Torbay is also working closely with our consultants to develop a range of short, medium, and long-term solutions to address water supply challenges moving forward.
We are at a critical point in the year. It’s essential to raise water levels in the ponds before freeze-up. If we don’t, we risk facing similar or worse shortages in the winter and spring.
Please, do your part. Every drop counts.
Let’s work together to protect our community’s water supply.
