Important Notice | Winter Operations & Public Safety

The Town of Torbay infrastructure and public works teams have been working tirelessly to manage the significant snowfall we’ve received over the past week. Our primary goal is to ensure that emergency vehicles and residents can move safely through our community.

To help teams do their jobs effectively, the Town is issuing a firm reminder regarding local bylaws and conduct.

1. On-Street Parking Bans

Vehicles parked on the street during a plow operations window prevent our operators from clearing the full width of the road which hinders operations and is a safety risk for everyone.

On-street parking is strictly prohibited during and after snow events and during our normal banned hours which can be found at https://www.torbay.ca/media/gegd4iwb/snow-clearing-by-law.pdf. Vehicles left on the street will be subject to immediate fines and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

2. Snow Dumping (Prohibited)

Pushing or blowing snow from private driveways onto public roadways or reservations is illegal. This creates hazardous "dead zones" and frozen ridges that damage equipment and cause accidents for other motorists. Please ensure your snow remains on your own property.

3. Zero Tolerance for Harassment

Recently, our operators have reported several instances of harassment from members of the public. This is unacceptable.

Our staff are members of this community. They are working long shifts in dangerous conditions to keep your family safe. Any person found threatening or impeding the work of our crews will be reported to local authorities.

Snow clearing is a massive logistical challenge. We understand the inconvenience of snowbanks and parking restrictions, but we ask for your patience and respect as we work to clear the way for everyone.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our streets safe and our community kind.
