Town Events
Some of our programs and events require pre-registration. The fastest and easiest way to secure a spot in our programs and events is through e-Services. Anyone who is unable to use e-Services can visit the front desk at the Torbay Common any day of the week between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., or contact our staff by phone at (709) 437-6555 or email the event contact indicated under all of our programs and events.
Registration for History House Programs and Events can be done through e-Services, by phone at (709) 437-6532 ext.270, or in person at Torbay History House during business hours (Monday - Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
National Child Day
The Town of Torbay will be celebrating National Child Day with an exciting Reptile Show. Meet and learn about a wide range of reptiles followed by face painting, a bouncy castle, rock wall climbing. Stop by to enjoy a fun time with pizza and treats!
When: November 20 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Christmas Events
Registration for all Christmas events with the exception of the Seniors Christmas Party will open for Torbay residents only on Friday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. Registration will be open additionally to non-residents on Wednesday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. while quantities last.
Tickets for the Seniors Christmas Party will be available for Torbay residents only on Friday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will additionally be available to non-residents on Friday, November 28 at 10:00 a.m. while quantities last.

Christmas Card Competition
Submit your card designs for a chance to become the official design of the Town of Torbay’s 2025 Christmas Card!
A winner from 2 divisions (Kindergarten - Grade 3 and Grades 4 - 6) will be selected and will receive 25 printed copies of their cards and a $100 prize. All entries will then be displayed at the Torbay History House and Museum during the Festival of Trees!
This contest is open to Torbay residents in and between Kindergarten - Grade 6 and pictures must be hand-drawn in pencil with color. Please indicate your full name, address, age, grade, and phone number on the back of the drawing.
Entries can be dropped off at the Torbay Common between 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, entries are to be marked to the attention of Alison Hollahan. The submission deadline is Friday, November 21, 2025 at 9:00 p.m. For more information please contact ahollahan@torbay.ca
Pictures with Santa [Limited Spots Remaining]
Gather up your family, break out your Christmas attire and work on those cheery smiles! Santa Claus will be visiting the Torbay Common to take pictures with families. Appointments must be booked in advance and each appointment will be 5 minutes in length.
When: November 13 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Downtown Shopping Excursion
Get into the holiday spirit with a festive trip downtown! Stroll through beautifully decorated streets, browse unique local shops, and find the perfect gifts while enjoying the sights, sounds, and tastes of the season. We’ll fuel up with tea/coffee/pastries at the Common before departing by bus at 10:30 a.m., and departing downtown at 2:30 p.m. In the event of poor weather we will visit the Avalon Mall instead. In the event of winter storm conditions this event will be cancelled.

Wreath Making [Limited Spots Remaining]
Get in the holiday spirit and make your own Christmas wreath! Boughs, wreath rings, and bows will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own additional decorations to add to their wreath. Please note that there are 4 sessions over the course of 2 days.
When: November 22 & 23 (Sessions between 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.)

Tree Lighting Ceremony & Christmas Cookie Decorating [Cookie Decorating Portion Sold Out]
Kick off the holiday season with a night full of festivities! Kids can decorate festive cookies in this friendly competition, then gather with family and friends to watch the magical tree lighting ceremony. There will be hot chocolate, holiday music, and even a visit from Santa!
When: November 27 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Cookie Decorating at 6:00 p.m. & Tree Lighting at 7:00 p.m.)

Christmas Concert for the Janeway
The Town of Torbay is pleased to offer a night of entertainment with the John Curran Band in support of the Janeway. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the children’s hospital, and additional donations of gift cards appropriate for ages 10+ will be gladly accepted on the night of the event.

Breakfast with Santa [Sold Out]
Breakfast is served! The Town of Torbay will be hosting a delicious pancake breakfast with a side of fruit and bacon, as well as your choice of tea, coffee, juice, or water. There will be 3 sittings for this event, and a visit from Santa himself!
When: December 6 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Sessions between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., & 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)

Nighttime Santa Claus Parade
The Town of Torbay is pleased to once again bring its residents the Nighttime Santa Claus Parade! The parade will start at Holy Trinity High School and end at Juniper Ridge Intermediate. Letters for Santa will be collected along the way as well as non-perishable food items.
When: December 6 at 6:00 p.m.

Community Skate
The Town of Torbay will be sponsoring a community skate held at the Jack Byrne Arena this holiday season! Proceeds will benefit the North East Avalon Food Bank.
When: December 13 from 3:30 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.

Seniors Christmas Party
Join us for one of our most popular events of the year; a festive evening of holiday cheer with a delicious Christmas dinner followed by music and dancing. Enjoy great food, lively tunes, and good company for a traditional Newfoundland Christmas party! Be sure to bring your Christmas spirit and best behaviour because you never know who could be stopping by!
A limited number of in-person tickets (250 total) and at-home delivery tickets (20 total) will be available for purchase while supplies last. Tickets will be available for purchase both online through e-Services and in person at the Torbay Common. Each person will be permitted a maximum of 4 tickets.
We advise that for a seamless experience, please call or visit the Torbay Common in the weeks leading up to the ticket sales as you may need help with your e-Services account to ensure it is set up properly and ready to go so you don’t miss out.
When: December 17 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
