What if you gave a party and nobody came?

This past Saturday Aug 05 the Town of Torbay hosted a Canada 150 ” Day of Celebration ” at the Jack Byrne Arena.
To say it was a light turnout would be generous. There were many offerings for young and old , families and anyone who wanted to come and celebrate our Towns tribute to this great country of ours .
For years I have heard people in this Town moan and groan that the Town doesn’t do enough of this type of thing and for many years that was probably the case . However since 2005 , our mini Come Home Year , the Town and its staff have tried many different functions for its residents . Some weren’t so great ,others were excellent but in all cases attendance was not where it should be for most of them .

I do realize that some of you are only here to pay your rent , that you work and play in the big city and really don’t care ! There is no excuse for the people in this Town who were born and raised here . You support neighbouring functions every year but when your own Town puts in the effort to sponsor an event you turn up your nose at it . To top it all off, this past Saturday’s event was absolutely free !!!

It’s time for that attitude to start changing , it’s time to get back out there and say hello to your neighbors and friends , support your Town and the people we hire or who volunteer to provide us with great events and ideas . Better still suggest something to the Town you’d like to see them do.

Saturday at Jack Byrne was an insult to this Town and this Country of ours by our residents .
It should never happen again !
